Made-to-measure TV stand: how to choose size
Measure the wall and decide whether the stand should be only a little wider than the TV or fill the whole niche. Width runs from 80 to 240 cm and its range depends on the number of columns, so the stand suits a small screen as well as a full living-room wall.
Choose height from 40 to 60 cm and depth of 36 or 40 cm for what will sit on top. Measure your speaker or console before you pick the depth.
Columns, fronts and cables
You split the stand into 2, 3 or 4 columns and give each one a door with a shelf, two drawers or an open shelf for a set-top box or console. With four columns you can join the two middle ones into one open bay with a shelf across its full width. Fronts are flush or recessed by 2 cm, and you open them without handles (TIP-ON), with a knob, an edge handle or a bar handle.
The TV stand has no cable ports. If you want to hide the cables inside the furniture and have shelves above the TV, look at the TV wall unit: it has cable ports in the back of the open equipment columns and in the top under the TV recess.
Laminate board, lacquer or plywood
A TV stand sits under the screen, so you see its colour together with the TV. You can design it in laminate board, lacquered MDF or melamine-faced birch plywood. Graphite, matt black or walnut give a dark base under the screen; white, sand beige or natural oak a light one.
Laminate board comes in Kronospan décors that resist scratches and wipe clean, lacquered MDF has a smooth matt finish in a RAL colour, and plywood a pastel colour with a raw birch edge. The price grows with width and height and depends on the finish and on what goes into the columns.
